LONDON | Review: myhotel Chelsea

As part of our new little initiative to work with some of our favourite bloggers, we chose Abby of Wanderlust & Bake to review flirty and feminine myhotel Chelsea on a Sunday evening. Here's what she thought of this hotel in one of London's most swanky boroughs.

Pass the bubbles won't you dahlink?

Nestled snugly in-between Fulham Road and King’s Road, two of London’s swankiest streets, sits myhotel Chelsea. Last Sunday, after a day of eating, shopping and west London wandering, I spent the night at this boutique 46 room hotel and this is what I thought…

Location, location, location

Myhotel Chelsea sits on a blissfully quiet residential street, just a moment's walk from some of London’s most exclusive shops, restaurants and entertainment venues. Guests can enjoy a silent night sleep whilst benefiting from a plethora of things to see and do just a stone’s throw away - a very rare thing for a city centre hotel.

For foodies, Tom Aitkins Restaurant, Conran’s Bibendum and Tom’s Kitchen are exciting restaurants all within walking distance. For shopping and celeb-spotting the designer boutiques of Sloane Avenue are just a 2 minute walk away.

Check in

We arrived at the hotel in the evening, after being completely tired out by the sheer amount of walking we did during the day. Check in was fast and simple - we were greeted with friendly faces every time we saw a member of staff.

The hotel

Although aimed specifically at the female market, I have to say myhotel will not blow you away in the same way staying at London's Ritz would. There is no modern, inventive design or standout features, nor is it particularly British or traditional. myhotel describes itself as a ‘hip’ hotel, ‘where Sex and the City meets Brideshead Revisited’, but being completely honest, for me there was just a little something missing in its design.

This property is well located, simple and comfortable. Staff are warm and friendly and the hotel succeeds in being an inoffensive, relaxing retreat from the bustling, swanky streets.

I stayed in a superior double room which was vast for a London hotel - anyone who's stayed in the city will realise there's barely room to keep a suitcase, let alone anything else. So that got plus points for me. The bed sheets were wonderfully white and soft as were the two fluffy bathrobes and pairs of slippers waiting for us on arrival.

We hung our post-shop purchases in a walk-in wardrobe room and enjoyed the calm and quiet with cheese and charcuterie room service and glasses of wine (while watching X Factor). Breakfast the following morning had a wide array of appetising options including strawberry topped yogurt and granola, smoked salmon parcels and fresh bread and pastries. It was certainly more than your simple Fried English, that's for certain.

All in all...

A stay at myhotel Chelsea will be a quiet and relaxing one, away from the hustle and bustle of the West End but still central enough to be a hop, skip and jump away from some of London’s loveliest shopping streets, restaurants and sightseeing spots. I can’t promise that it will be a stay to remember, but will wholeheartedly recommend it for smiley staff, great room service, and a wonderful night’s sleep.

My score: 7/10 - great location, amazing staff and huge rooms but there's just something missing in its design.
