(My friend took his girl to watch it. He said it was the most boring film he'd ever seen, 'but the clothes were dapper.')
So whether you're a tourist in the city for a short stay, or a London-dwelling urbanite, try these five top picks for harking back to those Prohibition days. If you do end up paying them a visit, don't forget to sort out a proper Art Deco manicure to keep with the theme of the night.
And always, always, always remember to keep their locations under your hat. You don't want to tip off the authorities now...
Bourne and Hollingsworth | 28 Rathbone Place, W1T 1JF
Keeping with the traditonal speakeasy theme, this basement bar is a well-hidden secret in London's soho. Cocktails are served in teapots and tea cups, and will set you back about £7.50 a pop. Decor is granny chic, and the whole place is cosy (read: tiny), so head over earlier in the evening if you want to be seated at one of the mismatched chairs.
Reverend JW Simpson | 32 Goodge Street, Fitzrovia, W1T 2QT
Sister to Bourne and Hollingsworth, this place opened at the end of 2012 and already has a loyal following of speakeasy aficionados. Cocktails are priced similar, at about £7-9. Decor is a definite mishmash of plush seating with original features - the tiles that adorn the walls are all part of the history of the building.
214 Bermondsey | 214 Bermondsey St, SE1 3TQ
Heading south of the river now, Bermondsey still retains loads of London charm without being as hipster/annoying as Shoreditch and other up-and-coming East London hangouts. Fans of gin are definitely advised to pay this speakeasy at least one visit, this bar is all about the stuff. During happy hour G&Ts are a fiver. A definite bargain for such a popular place.
The London Cocktail Club | 222-224a Shaftesbury Avenue, Bloomsbury, WC2H 8EB
Perfectly placed for tourists, The London Cocktail Club serves up cheap and cheerfuyl cockatils (with a brilliant BOGOF available everyday between 4pm - 7pm). Cocktails are served in an array of interesting glasses, and very often on fire or featuring just-can't-quite-put-my-finger-on-it ingredients. Cocktails are a bit more pricey, but it's worth it.

She lives with her boy and her boycat in a house in Essex. Her favourite things are red lip stains (lipsticks never last), sweet cocktails and fresh, new notebooks.
