Fancy frocks, cocktails and a secret bar in the woods. It's all about the anti-festival.

Monday 10 June 2013
If, like me, you're a bit bored of over-priced, loud and lairy festivals, then put away those wellies, leave the tent wherever it is in the attic and save your hard-earned pennies. I've found something far more magical and enchanting, and there's very little chance of someone throwing a putrid tray of how-can-you-possibly-charge-that noodles into the crowd.

Wyndstock, held on the weekend of 22nd June, is the ultimate anti-festival - an enchanting summer playground for a select group of people. Dress code: simply your finest attire. I'd go with 1920s.

Held in the majestic grounds of Houghton Hall, Norfolk, Wyndstock is a weekend of sensory feasting, playful glamour and delightful pleasure-seeking in a magical setting.

Organised by Victor Wynd, Chancellor of the Last Tuesday Society, and Mark Holdstock of Bourne and Hollingsworth, Wyndstock's been created for those who want to enjoy the camping and socialising of a festival, but without over-crowded facilities and crazy ticket prices.

So what's it about?

It all begins in the daytime with games, garden tours and literary talks, all washed down with afternoon tea and fizz. As the sun sets, guests are invited to enjoy cocktails on the lawn followed by a candlelit dinner. Later on, the party heats up with live bands, DJs and dancing, and continues until sunrise at a secret bar hidden deep in the woods.

Held at Houghton Hall, by kind permission of The Marquess of Cholmondeley, guests are invited to treat it as if it were their own. So, once through the gates you can wander at will over acres of English greenery and watch wild white deer play. Once you've enjoyed lunch on arrival and are settled into your camping, glamping or glimping tents, you'll be invited to pass the afternoon by playing croquet and badminton on the lawns, exploring the nooks and crannies inside the house itself, visiting a petting zoo, or taking forty winks under a woodland tree. Cream teas will be served alongside English summertime tipples. There's even relaxing yoga held on the lawn to refresh. It's a far cry from V Fesitval, that's certain.

While the sun sets, grand tables will be set with white linen, fine china and silverware ready for the evening banquet. Lit by candlelight and a roaring bonfire, it features food sourced straight from the estate itself.

After the banquet, you're invited to party the night away, sipping cocktails and guzzling Champagne, while enjoying the live music. When the music stops, you'll travel deep into the forest to a hidden wandering bar - a complete replica of Fitzrovia’s Bourne & Hollingsworth. The perfect ending to a fairytale evening.

Once you've had some sleep in your tents, you'll be able to enjoy a full breakfast accompanied by the ultimate hangover tonic – fresh country air and a Bloody Mary. Quite simply, everything has been catered for. Even down to the hangover remedy. It's the perfect option for people who are a bit too grown up to slum it with teenagers.

Wyndstock offers luxury glamping facilities, as well as a lower priced glimping option, and also invites its guests to bring their own tents. There will be a coach service to the event from London for those who don’t have their own transport, at £30 a person.

Tickets start at £100 - early bird tickets may still be available for £70. For more details email info@wyndstock.com or call 020 7724 1617.
