Five sweet shop and dessert inspired cocktail recipes

Tuesday 3 September 2013
In a hunt for the best Birmingham bars I stumbled upon Fumo, who say they offer quirky cocktail creations to suit any palette. Now, being the cheeky sorts we are, we decided to put this to the test. Surely any mixologist worth their salt can come up with a bespoke cocktail for even the fussiest punter, right? Anthony Trueman rose to our challenge and created a range of cocktails based on old skool treats from way back when, ESPECIALLY for us! You have to give these six out of ten sweet treats a try!

Eton Mess Cocktail
This traditional old school dessert has inspired a sumptuous summery cocktail full of strawberries, cream and crushed meringue.

30ml sloe gin
20ml strawberry liqueur
1 teaspoon strawberry jam
1 x egg white
Double cream
1 teaspoon Demerara sugar

Mix and serve over ice. Garnish with cream, crushed meringue and sliced strawberry.

Apple Crumble Cocktail
Based on the quintessentially classic British pudding this light, crisp, refreshing cocktail has a sweet, spicy cinnamon edge – simple nostalgia.

10ml Cinnamon syrup
20ml Vanilla schnapps
40ml Gala apple vodka
50ml Apple Juice

Garnish with an apple fan dusted in cinnamon.

Turkish Delight Cocktail
Be taken back to your childhood with this indulgent soft, creamy cocktail. Delicately flavoured with rose water and finished with a sprinking of chocolate dust. Heaven sent.

20ml Mozart dark chocolate liqueur
15ml Rose syrup
2 dashes of rose water
2 dashes of chocolate bitters
30ml of vanilla vodka
40ml half and half (milk and cream)

Garnish with cocoa powder and a piece of Turkish delight.

Bubblegum Cocktail
There’s a subtle banana tinge to this vibrant blue, silky smooth cocktail. Wonderfully refreshing and flavoured just like this sweet treat!

20ml Baileys
20ml Blue Caruso
20ml Banana liqueur

Mix and serve with Hubba Bubba!

After Eight Cocktail
A perfect alternative to after dinner coffee. Finish your meal with an ice cool glass of this creamy indulgent cocktail. Packed full of fresh mint taste, luxury dark chocolate chops and just a hint of vanilla.

30ml Vanilla vodka
2 dashes of chocolate bitters
15ml crème de menthe
20ml white chocolate liqueur
3 scoops of vanilla ice cream
Blend with 4 squares of dark chocolate

Serve in a tall glass and garnish with fresh mint and shaved dark chocolate.
