Four floral fragrances for spring and summer

Friday 12 April 2013

I’m what's known in the perfume world as a ‘fumehead’, or fragrance enthusiast and all-round avid collector.

After years of perfume samples and spritzes, I discovered that I love thick, sweet fragrances (Flower by Kenzo being my all time favourite), but when the skies are blue and the sun is shining I often fancy a change. Because who likes feeling weighed down by a heavy scent? It’s so nice to wear a delicate perfume that smells bright, fresh and sometimes out-and-out floral to reflect the bright days and eagerly emerging spring blossoms.

From floral violets to sweet citrus notes, spring is all about wearing a scent that totally suits you. After all, your perfume is just an extension of your unique style. So here are my top fragrances for spring:

Daisy by Marc Jacobs
Daisy’s pretty packaging, combining pastel colours and huge white daisies really reflects this feminine and floral scent. First thing in the morning, expect violet and citrus fruits. Lunchtime? Full-on floral. And by mid afternoon you’ll be left with soft vanilla and woody musk. Perfect for playful afternoons in the park.

Miss Dior Eau de Toilette
Miss Dior manages to be both bright and delicate, and extremely classy and elegant (just like us six out of ten girls). The top note of Italian mandarin is refreshing but sweet, and jasmine and rose hidden underneath is a beautifully feminine. What I love most about Miss Dior though is the lingering scent of patchouli - one of my absolute favourites - and musk. Feminine + seductive = great for date night.

L’Occitane, The Vert
I can barely put into words how much I love this fragrance; it’s been a favourite of mine for a long time. ‘Transporting you to green fields...’ (so say L’Occitane), The Vert is full of beautiful unfermented tea leaves, orange and hints of white flowers. Although it’s definitely a light fragrance, it’s not so light as to disappear within minutes. Perfect for when you’re taking advantage of the light (warmish) evenings and eating al fresco.

Clinique, Limited Edition Happy in Bloom 2013
Described by Clinique as 'spring in a bottle’, this year’s Special Edition version of the ever-popular Happy combines gentle fruity waves of apricot with freesia and mimosa flowers. The woody base note ensures that it has staying power so you’ll be smelling happy for even longer! Lovely for long shopping days and wine with friends.
